  • Motorcycle Display Team release new single ‘A Taste’ and announce Irish tour in April

    Motorcycle Display Team

Release new single ‘A Taste’ and announce Irish tour in April

It’s no revelation that hard work pays off and this year it is Motorcycle Display Team’s time to shine. With the upcoming Irish release of their single ‘A Taste’ on April 5th 2013, taken from their outstanding debut album ‘Captatio Benevolentiae’, the band are set to take Ireland by the scruff, and nobody is going to complain!

The UK power-pop trio formed in 2008 and have since grafted tirelessly to become a mainstay in the UK music scene. They have seen their music featured in “Hollyoaks”, a BBC sitcom called “Off the Hook”, they have been featured as ‘Artist of the Month’ on We7 and were named Unsigned Band of the Month by Absolute Radio. To top that the band have had illustrious residencies in the renowned ‘Dublin Castle’ and The New Cross Inn in London town and have received significant FM radio play in the UK, Ireland and beyond.

Despite all these achievements the band remained to fly relatively under the mainstream radar until now. The album ‘Captatio Benevolentiae’ is their debut LP which reaches us 2 years after the release of their EP ‘The Crayon Masterpiece’. Produced and mixed by Cesar Gimeno Lavin of Modest Mouse and White Lies fame, the 11 songs on the album are undeniably slick and incredibly addictive and have received much critical acclaim to date’

Chordblossom, com (4/5) “MDT have managed to create a record that hops, skips and jumps through a smorgasbord of musical styles and is hugely impressive to possess such versatility. It’s revelatory how good it is. Go buy. Go listen. Go enjoy.”
Chunk.ie (7.5/10) “……a talented rhythm section in Matthew Eyre (Bass Guitar) and Morgan Condon (Drums). Atop this appealing mix sits Vocalist/Guitarist Steve Hinds’ lush falsetto vocal, that hops around with great versatility and playfulness, backed up by some of the tastiest harmonies this side of Motown”
Right Chord Music “The album entirely captivates and through its catchy choruses and shrewd velvety lyrics, keeps you engaged for hours”
The Irish Daily Star (3/5) “An infectious enough blend of art-rock and punk funk to make you want to listen to it again.”

The band comprises of three zealous musicians hailing from the finest corners of the globe, among whom talent is not lacking. Steve is a successful actor from the UK, Morgan a Dublin musician who has had former chart success with his former band Zeel . While Matt is a New Zealand lawyer who lays claim to a good lashing of Irish heritage and also a revered ‘clothed’ cameo in a popular porn movie.

So far the band has released two single from the album ‘Betweenager’ and ‘Brickwall’. The band have already toured Ireland to a rip roaring response but with the release of ‘A Taste’ on April 5th MDT have Ireland on their hitlist once more.

Catch the band playing live at the following Irish venues:

    Thursday 4th April            Whelans, Dublin

Friday 5th April                  The Library Bar, Limerick

    Saturday 6th April             Bentleys, Galway

  • Eddi Reader plays last of her sell out shows tonight in Whelans

    Eddi Reader

    Announces Irish tour in February

‘Vagabond’ a new single available fromwww.eddireader.com

Eddi Reader sets her sights on the Emerald Isle this February to bring us her pop-folk soothing sounds. Eddi’s Irish tour will start in Antrim and she will work her way south to Cork, taking in Dublin, Wexford & Kilkenny.

Eddi grew up in Glasgow and Irvine, Scotland and it was in those towns that she learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at the local folk clubs. In the early 1980s, Eddi travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before moving to London where she quickly became a sought after session vocalist. She famously harmonised with Annie Lennox touring with the Eurythmics, after her time with successful punk outfit Gang of Four. It was short-lived but warmly remembered Fairground Attraction that really brought her into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience. The single “Perfect” and parent album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts.

However, it was her subsequent albums which signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own. Her unerring instinct for fine material, whether self penned, collaborative or a carefully chosen cover version resulted in Mirmama (1992), Eddi Reader (1994), Candyfloss & Medicine (1996), Angels & Electricity (1998), Simple Soul (2001).

Eddi is due to release a new single “Vagabond” on 8 February which is taken from her new yet to be titled album, due out later this year. The single will be available as a free download from her website.  It was written by Eddi and her newly wedded husband John Douglas, musician and original member of the Trashcan Sinatras, with words by the English poet John Masefield (1878-1967).

Both Eddi and John had been drawn to Masefield’s work over the years and his poem “Vagabond” struck a chord with its simple, conversational evocation of one of life’s wanderers pondering, sometimes answering, the large and small questions of life. For a long time, both Eddi and John had described their lives journeys as ‘Vagabonding’ so it was no surprise that on discovering this poem it had transformed itself into a song within the hour.

The track was recorded in Scotland and Eddi will follow up in the studio to finish the album. After Eddi’s Autumn tour she expressed “I’ve enjoyed performing our new song Vagabond. It’s getting better all the time”, which can only lead to say it will be great by the time she reaches Ireland!

Last year Eddi embarked on a successful Australian tour, UK tour and had lots of festival appearances. She also presented Ye Banks and Braes – A Burns Night Celebration on BBC Ulster which took place on the 25th of January in Ulster Hall. Eddi performed the Burns song “You’re Welcome Willie Stewart” accompanied by the Ulster Orchestra, with conductor Carl Davis.

Free download of ‘Vagabond’ available from www.eddireader.com  from 8 February, 2013
